Wing Tzung
Instructor Mr. Dan Montgomery

Markham Taekwondo and Martial Arts Academy is proud to announce that the Wing Tzung style of Kung-Fu will be taught on regular intervals in the new year. The affiliation of this martial art style can be described as a dedication compliment of one's persue of training excellence. More detials to come in the new year.

Dan Montgomery with over twenty years tkd experience, decided to further his knowledge in the martial arts, to do this, he sought out the some of the best in the world to quench his thirst of the martial arts. Dan has trained, Long Fist Kung Fu, Aikido, Tai Chi, and of course Wing Tzung. To find these great instructors was no easy chore, Dan has travelled coast to coast and across the atlantic ocean to meet and train with the best. Some of major cities Dan has trained in are San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C and Munich Germany. Some of his favourite teachings have come from, Emin Boztepe, Hans-Jorg Reimers, Valerie Lee, Michael Casey, Ingo Wiegel, Alan Lamb, Andrew Draheim, Rene Latosa, and Robert Brown. Dan's focus of late has been on Wing Tzung, the late great Bruce Lee was one of the first to bring Wing Tzung to North America, His Teacher, Yip Man, had many students, one of his last was Leung Ting. This is the lineage that Dan draw's most of his knowledge from.

Wing Tzung, pronounced “wing chun” is one of the most mysterious and ingenious martial art ever devised. As legend has it, roughly 250 years ago a female monk from shaolin named Ng Mui escaped the burning of Shaolin temple and while in hiding developed this system to take advantage of the weaknesses inherent of the other styles. Ng Mui’s first student was a woman named Yim Wing tzung. Wing tzung because of its effectiveness was kept a closely guarded secret for many years. Passed down secretly through family and royalty, until Yip Man, who many consider the grandmaster of modern day Wing Tzung, opened it up to the rest of the world while teaching in Hong Kong. Yip Man had many students, most famous was of course Bruce Lee. Almost all “Wing Chun” practiced today no matter what spelling is used can be traced back to Yip Man. Yip Man had many students throughout and at different times of his life, thus creating the different styles we see today, the passing of time changes the way people perceive and understand things. Yip Man was no different, as he aged he was forced to modify Wing Tzun to match his age, body, and mind. The people who learned Wing Tzun early in Yip Man’s career, learned a slightly different version than the people who learned from Yip Man late is his career. Thus the different styles, which one you ask is better well I will leave that up for you to decide. But our lineage comes from the last closed door pupil Yip Man ever taught.
