About Master Ko
Master Michael Ko is the Academy Director and Head Master of Markham Taekwondo Academy. A Kukkiwon Certified 5th Dan Black Belt, he has been part of the MTA family for over 12 years and has been teaching Taekwondo professionally for more than two decades. His martial arts background extends beyond Taekwondo — with training in Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai — giving him a well-rounded, modern approach to martial arts education.
"While I believe in teaching students the most up-to-date techniques and helping each person on their journey to black belt, my priority is making sure every student gains confidence — inside and outside the gym. Martial arts is a vehicle for developing our human potential. We want champions in sport, but we need champions in life."
Master Ko is deeply active in the Ontario Taekwondo community, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Taekwondo Ontario Tournament Committee and as a certified referee. His credentials as a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPc) and NCCP Dojang Coach & Assistant Instructor reflect his commitment to excellence in coaching at every level. Under his guidance, MTA athletes have achieved medals at Provincial and National Championships in both Poomsae and Kyorugi.
